I am a member of the Lockhart River Art Gang. This is a group of young Aboriginal Artists from the east coast of Cape York in far north Queensland. We work from the Art Centre in Lockhart River.
I paint about my country ... our land and our sea -country ... the patterns and colours and the stories. My recent works are about sandbeach country ... between rainforest and Coral Sea.

I don’t really do fine drawings and paintings like the boys in the Art Gang ... all my works are abstract ... my style of work is modern ... my own style ... but it’s traditional too. I paint things from my head ... the way I think about things ... and I always use bright colours.
My grandmother tells me stories from the old days ... I paint these stories ... or even when old people are telling stories to me, I get a bit of an idea for my painting ... paintings about traditional culture.

Burning Trees On A Hill

Sometimes when we go out somewhere ... I see landscapes ... the colour of the reef, river, or even muddy roads, burning grass ... I come back and I paint them. Sometimes what I see I paint ... paint about day trips ... what we do on our trips.
I paint things that happen in the community ... sometimes what I see really upsets me ... I paint ... it makes me feel better inside. I paint about some people in the community ... what happens to them ... what they do and what really hurts them. That makes me hurt inside too ... that painting makes the bad feeling go away.
I have a young daughter, Brooke, who was born in May, 1997 and we live with my mother and family. I enjoy fishing in the bush, softball, catching and cooking traditional foods and socialising with people in my community, mainly my family and the Art Gang.
